This last Saturday I had agreed to let my coworkers use a couple of metal folding chairs we have in the garage while they operated a booth at the Preparedness Fair at the Bass Pro Shop in Mesa. I forgot to bring them into the office all week so on Friday I told them I would drop them off around 9am when it started. The day before, Ginger took Audrey with her, for one on one time (we’ve been trying to make that a regular thing with all of them), to the store and Grace was kind of upset, so I thought it would be a good idea to take her with me to drop the chairs off and look at anything interesting that might be there at the Preparedness Fair. Well, judge for yourself if there was anything interesting there.
Budding Author
Realizing that she had most of the alphabet keys on the keyboard memorized, Audrey caught a typing bug. She started writing a story several weeks ago and finished it today. She is so creative and I wanted to share this with you all, so if you have a few minutes and are in the mood for a festive read, take a look! Good Job Audrey, can’t wait for your next one!
The Ghost Adventure
By Audrey Beleza Coria (September 2009)
Once there were 3 ghosts their names were Boo, Shadow, and Alloween. Boo was a funny ghost. He always likes to scare his brother and sister. Shadow was a shy ghost. He loved to play games, his favorite was hide ‘n seek. Alloween was always full of energy. Her nickname is Going Ghost. These 3 ghosts are about to have the adventure of their life.
Chapter 2
On a cool day in October, the 3 ghosts were playing in their yard. Their favorite holiday was close! “I can’t believe were going to be in the scare-o-thon this year” said Alloween! “Me too,” said Boo and Shadow together. Ring! Ring! , went the bell in the tower of their house. It was time to go inside and go to bed. That night they all had a strange dream. They all woke up at the same time. Then they noticed that they weren’t at their house. Shadow was scared when he saw where he was. Alloween looked at Boo angrily. “Now look what you’ve done Boo” yelled Alloween! “I didn’t do anything” yelled Boo back! “Stop fighting” screamed Shadow! The three ghosts were in front of a big house. “I’m going to knock on the door of that big house” said Boo nervously. When he did, a vampire answered the door. “Hello” said the vampire, “my name is Mr. Dracula”. “H—h—hi” said Boo. Alloween and Shadow raced up behind him. “What in the world is going on here” said Alloween? “I don’t know” said Boo. “May we invite you inside” said a startling voice? “Yes, we’re hungry and scared” said Shadow in almost a whisper. So they went inside, ate dinner, and went to bed. The next morning the Dracula’s tried to help them get back home but couldn’t. They were worried that they would miss the scare-o-thon. They probably wouldn’t get another chance for a long time. “What are we going to do” asked Boo? “I don’t know I don’t care” said Shadow “I just want to get home”. “Yeah and I want to know how we got here” said Alloween.

So they thought about Alloween’s question, how did they get there? Of course Boo was the 1st to come up with something. “Goblins, they don’t want us to be in the scare-o-thon” said Boo thoughtfully. “Yeah those guys are always being mean” said Shadow. “They look more like trolls to me” said Alloween disgusted. “They used their goblin magic to make us come here” they said together. “But how do we get back?” said Shadow.
Chapter 3
“A map” Alloween shouted excitedly! So they got a map from a store. They looked at the map and did not find their town. But at the bottom of the map there was a code: 19\5\5-2\9\7\5\18-13\1\16. “What does that mean?” said Boo. “Yes! I’ve got it” said Shadow. “An alphabet code.” “You’re smart Shadow” said Alloween. “Done” said Boo. “It says: See bigger map” he said. “Bigger map” they said? “Wait, I saw a bigger map that looks like this one at the store” said Alloween. So they went back to the store and found a bigger map. They found their town and shouted “Hurray”! They could go home now. It was hard to get home but they got there all right. When they got there, they went to find the goblins. The Dracula’s came with them.

“Why did you make us go somewhere else” asked Boo? “Because we want to be in the scare-o-thon” said one of them in a creaky voice. “Well we’re here now” said Aloween in an angry voice. “Grr” said one. “Mayor Mummy” said Shadow with authority. So the little ghosts raced to Mayor Mummy’s house. “Come baaaack” they heard a Goblin yell.
Chapter 4
“M-M-Mayor Mummy” Boo panted. “goblinmade usgosomewhe”. “Hold on a second” said Mayor Mummy. “Where have you three been these last couple of days?” asked Mayor Mummy. “We’ve been looking everywhere”. “That,” said Alloween “is simple”. So the three ghosts told Mayor Mummy the whole thing that had been going on the last couple of days. “I see” Mayor Mummy kept on saying. At the end Mayor Mummy said “Two concerns: 1, the goblins are crazy and bad creatures. 2, The Dracula’s should live here in Halloweenville. “They would like to live with us I’m sure” said Boo. “Yes, and we have enough space for two more” said Shadow. “It’s settled then” said Mayor Mummy. The next day was Halloween. “Yippy” cried Alloween. “There goes Going Ghost again” said Boo happily. That night the scare-o-thon was a big success.
“Hey, since the goblins are gone does that mean we don’t have to wait to be in the scare-o-thon” asked Shadow? “I guess” said Alloween.
And that’s the end of their adventure.
Look at my new trick!!
Sophia has been busy learning to walk and talk. I love this time with my children. Watching them grow and learn is fascinating to me. She still crawls mostly, but is really starting to get the hang of walking. She has also picked up a few words. Dada (of course. She loves Marc!) Mama, Baba (bottle), Bye, Hi, Hello, More, and Dog! Why dog? We don’t have a dog, I don’t even like dogs, but evidently she does. She gets so excited when she see’s our neighbor’s dog, or random dogs in the neighborhood, on TV, or in books. She now also says “woof” when you ask her what a doggy says. She is also enjoying pointing at things and saying “that” and when asked where your eye is, she will say “eye” and point to your eye. Oh yeah, and let’s not forget the occasional climb, just to freak mommy out! We love you Sophia, you’re getting big and Mommy is excited about it!!!
From the looks of the pictures, you can see that she is excited about it too!
41 Years
My parent’s celebrated their 41st wedding anniversary on September 12th. What is so special about 41 years you may ask? I still don’t know, except my brother Daniel thought it was something to celebrate. He had been planning a huge celebration in his head for several months. This included my parent’s “renewing their vows” (too many movies Daniel!) and it all being a surprise to my parents. Well, my sister and I talked Daniel into an intimate family event of chocolate fountain and ice cream cones. We kept it a surprise and had a digital photo book made with some of their original wedding pictures and some pictures of our family through the years. Daniel also drew a picture of their house in his art class and had it framed for my parents. Mom and Dad were so sweet and enjoyed the afternoon with their family. I think Daniel was pleasead with the outcome.
Happy Anniversary Mom and Dad. You are a great example to all of us! Love you!!!
